This weekend as we sat on our new blue couch and watched on TV what began at this home, I lifted my coffee cup in gratitude for what’s been and renewed hope for what is still to come.

As we stepped into January, worried and weary, for a world that feels heavier and more divided by the day, I contemplated a 2026 “Word of the Year” that I hoped might capture our collective sentiment and hope for the year ahead.

This is one of our favorite stories to tell at the Bird & Bear when people say “I love your book wall!” during a visit.
